5 Tips for Making Senior Photo Sessions Fun and Memorable for Guys

Senior year is filled with memories and milestone, and one of the most time honored is senior photos. And while the girls seem to be super excited, some guys feel these photos are a chore. Let me be honest, some moms tell me the guys are only doing the senior photos because Mom wants that special memory.

No worries, I'm here to help you make your Webb City senior photo session fun. I want you to not only love the photos, but I want your senior to enjoy the experience. With the right approach, we'll have your senior guy smiling in no time.

So let's get to it; here are 5 Tips for Making Senior Photo Sessions Fun and Memorable for Guys. All photos by greater Joplin senior photographer, April Hurst Photography.

Tip 1: Include an Activity the Senior Enjoys

When you can include an activity or sport your senior enjoys, it will translate in the final photos. I see seniors come alive during the part of their session that includes the hobby or activity that they love. One of my favorite guy sessions was on the golf course watching a senior (oh and photographing him too) while he spent time doing a sport he loves.

Tip 2: A Car is Always Fun

It doesn't get better than including your car or truck in senior photos. There are so many fun ways to pose in and around a car, and it provides a super fun memory for the guys. Whether you bring the car downtown or we find a dusty dirt road, your senior guy will love including his car.

Tip 3: Include the Beloved Pet

Do you want genuine belly laughs? Then bring your pet. Talk about joy, it's what our furry friends give to us. The interaction with a pup is so fun and shall we say unpredictable. You're sure to see your senior be himself when the family pet comes on the to the photo shoot. We might have to work on posing, but it's oh so fun.

Tip 4: Location, Location, Location

This one is key. To start your session off right, you want a location that your senior will enjoy. Consider a downtown Webb City senior photo session or downtown Joplin session for an architectural backdrop. If your senior is all about nature, Wildcat Glades or Grand Falls in Joplin are ideal. There are so many unique Joplin photography spots; we're sure to find one your senior will love.

Tip 5: Bring Props

Props add a personalized touch to your photo session. I encourage my seniors to bring props that are meaningful to them; those could include instruments, sports equipment, lettermen's jackets, or accessories. This makes you senior session interactive and gives variety with poses as well. This Webb City senior photo session included a special hat that was a gift from a grandparent, it was sentimental and special to the family and added that importance piece to his session.

To conclude, senior photos shouldn't be a chore or a source of stress. Let's be sure your senior guy enjoys the session. By incorporating these 5 Tips for a Fun and Memorable Session, your senior will be smiling in no time. Let me help you plan your Webb City senior photos!
