Is a Mini Session Right for You?

There are so many perks to a mini session, but if you need a little more info before you choose your session type you're in the right place. Read on for all the pros and even a few cons of a mini session. Learn more as April Hurst Photography explains how a mini works and decide if it's the right session for you.

Do you love a good Pros and Cons list? Then I've got you; let's talk a little about the pros of a mini session and the cons too.

Let's Start with the Pros:

#1 Minis are, well, mini.

A mini session is shorter in length and in images. It's a great way to convince even the most photo resistant member of the family to join in the fun. When the kids know this session will be quick and painless, they'll be ready to show those real smiles you want.

#2 You can do multiple mini sessions to capture all the milestones!

So many families love to do multiple minis a year rather than just one annual session. A couple of minis each year allows you to see all the stages and changes in your kids and family. There are so many important milestones in our families, and catching a few mini sessions can give you the opportunity to honor those special times for your family. Incorporate that milestone moment into the minis I offer.

#3 Minis give you just the right amount of images.

A mini gives you just what you want; you may not need a full gallery of each session. If we're capturing Personality Portraits or Cap & Gown Memories, then just a handful of images may be all you really need. Do you want just a few images for your Christmas card? Then a mini is perfect. Taking advantage of these shorter sessions provides a great way to save the memory with professional and high quality images.

#4 You get a lower price on a mini session.

Minis are offered at a lower price point because your photographer is giving you fewer images in a shorter session. The photog is able to provide those beautiful images at a lesser cost than a full session. Take advantage of these mini sessions as they are only offered seasonal and on a limited basis.

And Now the Cons List:

#1 Some "littles" just need more time to warm up.

You know your kids. If they're shy or sometimes uncertain, they may need a little more time to be ready to give those smiles. If you have a new baby, you may need to soothe them or take a break with them. A mini wouldn't be the session for you.

#2 A mini isn't for you if you want extensive help with posing.

Minis typically are 15 to 20 minute sessions which mean we're working quickly to get beautiful images for you. However, if you want more help with posing, a mini doesn't give the same time that a full session gives. Mini sessions will have your basic poses that are quick and easy to teach.

#3 You may want a full gallery!

Minis only allow for a limited number of images, and if you're dressing the whole family up in their Sunday best that can be a big investment. Go ahead and get that full gallery with lots of images. You'll have so much variety in your gallery and you can print them all in a beautiful custom keepsake album.

#4 You want to take time to slow down and enjoy the process.

A lot of life seems to be lived in a hurry these days, and sometimes it just feels good to slow down. So go ahead, this is me giving you permission! Slow down and enjoy the moment. Relax a little and enjoy having your photo taken with the people you love most. You will treasure the memories you make together.

I hope this gives you the information you need to help decide if a mini or full session is right for you. I offer minis throughout the year with some of my most popular being: Personality Minis, Cap & Gown Minis, Prom Minis, Fall Minis, and Christmas minis!

Mini sessions are always so popular and sell out quickly. If you're interested in any mini sessions, priority access to always given to my email list. Sign up to get on that list here!
