Celebrating One Year of April Hurst Photography

A one year celebration of my first year in business, Happy 1st Birthday to April Hurst Photography!

I’m all about celebrating birthdays and milestones, so I figure one year of April Hurst Photography calls for some hoopla! It’s a pretty momentous occasion and one to commemorate, even if just for me. So, let the festivities or celebratory blog begin!

A little backstory, I ordered a “big” camera the week of my wedding nine years ago. I was in the midst of moving and needed it shipped to Tulsa, the location of our wedding, rather than my new home in Webb City. I planned to take it on our honeymoon to the Rocky Mountains and then planned to use it for capturing all of our family memories.

Funny part but maybe more stressful, because of moving, I had no real address for shipping. So the day before my wedding, I tracked down my new camera at the UPS store just as they closed (as if my wedding punch list wasn’t long enough). Camera was secured, and amateur photos ensued.

I had a ton of fun capturing our family life and our kids, and after a couple of years dove into a class just for parents who desired to photograph their littles. I was hooked. Fast forward a few more years, friends loved the photos I took of my own kids and asked me to capture their families. After testing the waters with some friends and of course my family, I decided to jump in with both feet. So all the courses began–photography and editing courses, business bootcamp, a website course. A year later, here I am. I’ve logged countless hours learning and studying. I’ve photographed lots of families and seniors. I’ve learned more about my style and what I love. Let’s just say, I’m ready to start year 2!

So why is this wife, mama of 2, and teacher spending my free time behind the camera? It’s something creative for me that I can share with others. I get to see your family or senior all dressed up. I get to be your biggest hype girl, all while helping you slow time and remember your most important moments.

Now you know how it all got started, you know my why. I love having my camera in hand, or computer on my lap, and coffee close by. You’ll find me smiling as I shoot and smiling while I edit my favorite photos of you! So a big Happy 1st Birthday to April Hurst Photography. I can’t wait to photograph you!

Just to commemorate the two who really got me started, I’m sharing my most recent snaps of my babes and their current favorite things. Be still my heart, this is why I love photography!
