What are the Best Locations for Senior Photos?

It's time to prepare for senior year. The question looms, what are the best locations for senior photos? Here's inspiration on some favorite spots by Webb City senior and family photographer, April Hurst Photography.

So you’re prepping for senior year. A big thing on the list–senior photos and that’s for good reason. Senior photos are the best way to celebrate and remember senior year. Believe me, it will come and go all too quickly. So let’s capture you in a fun and unique way.

A big decision about photos is definitely location. Actually, choosing at least a couple locations is best when planning your session. Let's get started with some of my favorites. And if you’ve got a favorite of your own I'm all ears, let’s do it because, after all, this is your session. It should show you!

Sports Locations

Has a sport been an important part of your high school career? Then include that in your location list. Two of my favorite shoots for guys this past year were at Carthage Golf Course and on the football field at John Roderique Field at Cardinal Stadium. Want to love your photos, then include what you love! Your session should be personal to you. Another fun way to incorporate your activity or sport is simply to bring a prop to your session. We'll find a unique way to tie it into your photos.

Golden Hour Fields

I mean, dreamy right? I love all things golden hour, then pair it with a grassy field and this photographer will shoot until all the light is gone. Seriously, there’s a reason golden hour is so popular; the light is perfection! It’s warm and glowy, and it just makes everything more beautiful. Personally, I would add a golden hour session to my must haves for every senior session. This senior girl was photographed at Wildcat Glades in Joplin, MO. They really do have the perfect fields as well as gorgeous blooms and water options too.

Downtown

Yep, downtown for your senior session. I’d do that too! A grassy meadow is whimsical and beautiful while downtown has a little more edge. You can see it in the architecture, strong lines, brick buildings, a gritty alley. Downtown also provides a lot of variety for your session--strong grey stone, red or white brick, or a dusty alley way. Webb City has so much to offer in downtown scenes; we used it in two of these sessions while the last one was photographed in Downtown Carthage.

Library

There’s a lot to love about the library, the books for starters. Seriously, if you know you know! Now that we’ve got that settled, libraries also have strong architecture. While shooting inside is fun, using the grounds at the library also provides a great backdrop. Oftentimes, you'll find flowering landscapes and gardens. You can get a lot of beautiful shots at your local public library. This senior girl graduated top of her class and was certainly all about the books. We loved photographing each of these shots at Webb City Public Library.

Your High School

Don't forget your own high school campus. Whether it be for a cap and gown session just before graduation or simply part of your regular senior session, let's try some favorite spots on campus for your session. It's fun to capture the places you've spent so much time learning and making memories. Your high school will be a memorable part of your senior album. These cap and gown sessions were all at Webb City High School, showing off the iconic and beautiful clock tower.

Let me say, the list of locations can go on and on! From coffee shops to greenhouses to a favorite park or flower field, we'll find all the locations you love. I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of my favorite spots for your senior photos. I'd love to hear what interests you or what you might choose for your session.

XO,

April
