What Should We Wear for Photos? Fall Edition | Joplin Family Photography

There are so many reasons families love photos in fall. Cool crisp air, colorful and beautiful leaves, pumpkin spice, and sweater season are your faves. A fall session is definitely for you. Are you ready to plan your session, but still deciding what to wear? Read on for What Should We Wear for Photos | Fall Edition in Joplin, MO.

Look #1: Cinnamon, Tan, White, and Charcoal

What We Love: This color combo feels earthy and neutral, but still has a pop of color with the cinnamon hue. The texture and small pattern in the sweet boy's outfit add interest. Mom's outfit is timeless and classic and coordinates perfectly with the guys in the fam. This where it's at for fall.

Look #2: Orange, Navy, Camel, and Blue

What We Love: Colors we call "complimentary" are opposite on the color wheel and always pair well together. Orange and blue are such colors. When planning your outfits, definitely consult the color wheel and try to include some complimentary colors. It's an easy way to get a jump on exactly what to wear. An extended family session like this one can seem overwhelming when thinking wardrobe, but this group got it just right. Even though there are multiple patterns, they used enough solids to ground their selections. Notice they also used lots of layers and accessories to add interest!

Look #3: Sage, Paprika, Khaki, Olive

What We Love: This family did a beautiful job of using just a couple of colors and simply varying the shades to create a cohesive look. Using differing shades of green including olive and sage works great together. The girls warmed it up with their tones; paprika gives a warm pop and the neutral khaki and cream ground their choices.

A few other tips for planning your wardrobe include:

  1. Start with moms or the girls outfits. Oftentimes, women's clothing includes more choices in patterns and styles. Pick the ladies' outfits and build from those colors and patterns.

  2. Think about the setting for your photos and all that's happening in nature. Ensure your choices reflect the season around you.

  3. Avoid black or too many dark colors. Be sure to add in some creams and neutrals even for fall.

  4. Choose outfits that make you feel great! You can find a lot of suggestions on what to wear, but the bottom line is, you will shine when you feel your best. Make sure your choices reflect you and your style, and make you feel your best.
