What to Wear for Your Senior Photos

I’ll always be ready to offer up lots of advice on what to wear for your senior photos, but remember your session is uniquely YOU so choose outfits that represent your style and show who you are. After all, your senior photos are meant to show your personality so let it shine. Now let’s talk about what to wear! Read along and get ready to look your best. Senior wardrobe tips from April Hurst Photography in Webb City, MO.

Wear Outfits that Show Your Personal Style

Think about your personal style and what you enjoy wearing. Do you love a more casual vibe or does dressing up suit you? When thinking about your style, think about what clothing you’re always drawn to and even what’s currently in your closet. Be true to yourself in your pictures, even in your outfit choices. As your photographer, I'll recommend both a causal look and a dressy outfit too. If you're like me, you love some good Pinterest inspiration too, but at the same time be sure to wear what reflects you.

Perfect outfit for a perfect setting, this was definitely the look for a field of yellow wildflowers.

Include Your Favorite Activity or Sport

Do you want to include a favorite sport or activity in your photos? Definitely plan to wear your uniform or bring along a prop for some photos. Let's talk about using the best location for that activity or sport. I'll be ready to set up our session at the location we need.

Ben had the best time at his session at the golf course. We planned for a beautiful sunny day and included the golf cart and clubs, and believe me, this senior loved his session!

This senior, Jocelyn, incorporated her love of track in a simple way. Just bringing along her shoes and medals gave a nod to her sport.

Plan for Multiple Outfits

Yes, plan for multiple outfits. I definitely suggest multiple looks in your session including a dressy and casual look. Senior guys, you too! I promise you'll be glad. Do balance multiple outfits without being overwhelmed with lots of clothing changes. Keep in mind the session you booked and how much time is included with your session. Guys, even jeans and a fresh black t-shirt makes a great look. Then add a button down for some dressier shots. You can even include a letterman’s jacket or jersey.

This senior guy kept is simple and easy, and his outfits are perfect--classic black t-shirt, button down, and letterman's jacket.

Wear Clothing that Flatters You

Definitely ask for second opinions on your clothing choices. Ask mom and dad and your best friend what they think. Absolutely ask me for an opinion. All of these people want you to look top notch in your pictures and will give you honest opinions about what looks great on you.

Jocelyn made great outfit choices. Her causal look was jean shorts and this pink tank. Her white and blue dress above definitely flattered and was perfect for golden hour in the field.

Let’s Talk Hair and Makeup

Okay girls, this is all for you. For photos, think about your best hair and makeup day, then kick it up a notch. You want to look like yourself in your photos, but it’s also a great idea to up your game. Have you perfected your own hair and makeup? Then go for it. Do you want to hire a pro? I can give some recommendations should you want to be pampered by a professional for your shoot.
